Dover Sweeps Midwest Sprint Touring Series Doubleheader at Huset’s Speedway

Inside Line Promotions – BRANDON, S.D. (Sept. 9, 2020) – Jack Dover swept a two-day Midwest Sprint Touring Series event at Huset’s Speedway last weekend, pushing his win total to eight triumphs this season.

“It’s really sweet,” he said. “Before the weekend started my confidence was pretty high. Sometimes you have the feeling that this is my weekend and I’m going to do well.”

Dover’s confidence was well placed as he maneuvered from seventh to third place in a heat race on Saturday. That earned a spot into the feature redraw and he pulled the No. 4 to start the A Main fourth.

“We worked our way up to third pretty quick in the heat race,” he said. “I looked at the lap times and saw we were pretty close to the leader and second place. I knew we had a pretty good car. We just tightened it up a little more for the feature.

“We got up to second and caught the leader early in the feature. I was patient until we got to traffic. The lapped cars were running the bottom and throwing the tacky stuff in the middle. I went to the middle one time in turns one and two. The car stuck pretty good and we were able to get by the leader. Once we did that we railed around the top the rest of the race.”

Dover took the lead at the midpoint of the 20-lap feature and cruised to his first win at the track since August 2013.

Sunday was nearly a mirror as Dover advanced from sixth to third place in a heat race to make the feature redraw. This time he got the No. 3 to line up third in the main event.

“We got up to third about three laps into the heat,” he said. “We had good cars in our heat with Clint Garner, Gregg Bakker and Carson McCarl. I knew if we were able to move forward with that caliber of drivers we’d be pretty good the rest of the night.

“We tightened up for the feature, but probably not as much as we should have. We got to second. Chris Graf was the leader and he was better than I was. I wasn’t pushing the issue as hard as I should have. He was pushing it and hit the cushion. It upset his car and sent him into the wall.”

Dover inherited the lead on Lap 6.

“We had a lot of restarts with Lee Grosz and McCarl behind us,” he said. “I was a little nervous. They have a lot of laps around there and I don’t have many. I tried to change my starts on the restarts and where I went on the track.”

Dover led the final three quarters of the race for his second straight victory.

Next up will be a pair of races at I-80 Speedway in Greenwood, Neb., with the Carpet Land Nebraska 360 Sprints this Friday and Saturday. The Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour will be a part of Saturday’s event.

“I’m looking forward to this weekend and next weekend,” he said. “There are big races coming up and I feel we have a chance at winning all four nights.”
