Post Race Inspection is Redemption for Dover in NCRA Sprints!

5/31/2011

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – Jetmore, Kansas – May 28, 2011 - As stated by track announcers at all race events, “all results are unofficial until post race inspection.” This was such the case on Saturday night as Amarillo, Texas driver Derek Drown saw the chance for his sixth career series victory taken away allowing Jack Dover to take the victory in the first night of the $3000 to win Steve King Memorial at the Great American Dirt Track in Jetmore, Kansas. The race was a co-sanctioned event with the Oklahoma based American Bank of Oklahoma ASCS Sooner region.
Jason Martin of Liberal, Kansas started on the pole for the 30 lap feature with Drown eventually taking the lead several laps later. Seventh starting Dover had also begun to make his move towards the front and also got around Martin for the third position and set his sights on the leader.
Drown and Dover battled for several laps with Dover, aboard the familiar #53 Thorpe’s Body Shop/Home pride Roofing sponsored sprinter powered his Eagle chassis passed Drown entering turns one and two on lap ten to take the lead.
Dover would open up a commanding lead but would see it all slip away as a pair of caution flags the final ten laps slowed the pace, allowing Drown to restart on his rear bumper. But after racing action resumed, a misunderstanding from his RACEceiver caused Dover to get out of the throttle allowing Drown to go by.
Drown, a former Hutchinson Grand Nationals champion, would hold on the final three laps to take the apparent victory in just his second 360 appearance on the 2011 race season. But post race inspection found his front nose wing too forward causing a disqualification, thus giving the victory to Dover, his third career with the NCRA.
Former series champion Mike Peters of Wichita, Kansas would officially come home second while C.J. Johnson, who came into the night as the series points leader came home third. Defending series champion Jeremy Campbell brought home the Danny King owned #E85 ICM/Ethanol sprinter home fourth while Danny Wood rounded out the top five.
The five, ten lap heat races for the 43 car field were won by Brady Bacon, Drown, Brian Brown, Campbell and Dover. The twin “B” features went to Tony Bruce, Jr. and Colt Treharn.
Racing action will continue at the Great American Dirt Track on Sunday night with the finale of the Steve King Memorial and another separate show that will once again pay $3000 to the nights feature winner.
