Dover Focused on 23rd annual Arnold Motor Supply 360 Knoxville Nationals

Inside Line Promotions – DENISON, Iowa (July 30, 2013) – Jack Dover is excited to get the sour taste of last week out of his mouth when he ventures to the 23rd annual Arnold Motor Supply 360 Knoxville Nationals this weekend.

Dover charged to a career-best fourth-place result during last season’s premier event at Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa. He also placed fourth during his only trip to the famed half mile earlier this season.

“I’m definitely ready to go after my first victory at the 360 Knoxville Nationals,” he said. “We’ve put together a good package and hopefully can have everything work out to our advantage.”

That wasn’t the case last Wednesday at Crawford County Speedway, where Dover caught the wall with three laps remaining while leading the Nebraska 360 Sprints feature.

Dover claimed his heat race from outside the front row and in doing so established the track record and fastest speed at more than 120 miles per hour. That earned him enough points to qualify for the feature redraw. As the third-highest driver in points, he selected the No. 7 in the random draw to start the main event on the inside of the fourth row.

After maneuvering to fifth place on the opening lap, Dover worked his way to the runner-up position before capitalizing in traffic for the lead.

“We were checking out and I got up to a lapped car,” he said. “It took the wind off the car. It makes the front end light because there’s no downforce. I saved the front from hitting the wall coming out of turn four, but the right rear tire hit the wall.”

Dover slowed on the backstretch with a flat tire. The crew replaced it during the caution and Dover was forced to restart at the end of the field. He rebounded to gain a half-dozen positions in the closing laps to finish sixth.

On Sunday, he headed to Huset’s Speedway in Brandon, S.D., to drive for Denny Wasmund.

“It was idling funny,” Dover said after the team put heat in the engine. “Once we started looking closer it was leaking oil from underneath the head so it blew both head gaskets. We didn’t even get to complete a lap.”
